OSHAKATI, NAMIBIA — 8 August 2026 — Namibia 30 Index (NAX30) today announced the development and production deployment of the NAX30 Index, a rules-based equity market benchmark designed to provide a transparent and structured measure of the performance of selected securities listed on the Namibia Securities Exchange (NSX).
The NAX30 Index references 30 NSX-listed securities under a defined benchmark methodology governing constituent selection, weighting, calculation, market-data interpretation, and periodic review.
The benchmark was developed to strengthen the market information infrastructure available for observing Namibia's listed equity market by providing investors, financial institutions, asset managers, analysts, researchers, policymakers, businesses, and the broader public with an additional reference point for evaluating market performance and direction.
NAX30 entered live production in April 2026 with a base index level of 10,000 points. Benchmark levels are calculated and published through the NAX30 digital infrastructure, with current and historical index information made publicly accessible through the NAX30 platform.
"Namibia has continued to develop its financial markets and institutional investment sector, and we believe that market-measurement infrastructure should develop alongside them," said Simon Kapenda, creator of the Namibia 30 Index and Founder of Abba Payments (Namibia) (Pty) Ltd. "NAX30 was developed to provide a transparent, rules-based benchmark through which market participants can observe the collective performance of a defined universe of securities listed on the NSX. Our objective is to build credible Namibian financial-market infrastructure that can be used for market analysis, research, data interpretation, and long-term capital-market development."
A Benchmark for Namibia's Listed Equity Market
Major economies rely on benchmark indices to measure market performance and investor sentiment. Germany has the DAX, the United States has the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA), Japan has the Nikkei 225, and the United Kingdom has the FTSE 100.
In Namibia, the Namibia 30 Index (NAX30) extends this benchmark framework as a rules-based, blockchain-native index referencing 30 selected companies listed on the Namibia Securities Exchange (NSX), providing a transparent composite measure of market performance, where rising levels indicate strengthening confidence and declines signal weakening conditions.
The NAX30 Index is structured as a composite benchmark rather than an individual security assessment. Changes in the index level reflect the aggregate weighted price performance of the securities represented within the benchmark.
The benchmark is therefore intended to provide a consolidated reference for observing trends across its selected NSX-listed equity universe.
A rising NAX30 level indicates positive aggregate weighted performance among the benchmark constituents during the applicable measurement period, while a declining level indicates negative aggregate weighted performance.
Individual movements should nevertheless be interpreted together with broader market, sector, liquidity, company-specific, and macroeconomic conditions.
NAX30 does not replace existing NSX or FTSE/NSX market indices. It has been developed as an additional independently administered benchmark designed to expand the analytical infrastructure available for understanding Namibia's listed equity market.
Rules-Based Benchmark Methodology
NAX30 is governed by a published methodology establishing the framework under which the benchmark is constructed, calculated, maintained, and reviewed.
The methodology addresses, among other areas:
- constituent eligibility and selection;
- benchmark weighting;
- calculation methodology;
- benchmark base level;
- market-data inputs;
- periodic constituent review;
- rebalancing procedures;
- corporate-action treatment;
- benchmark publication;
- governance and change control; and
- historical benchmark records.
The benchmark uses a modified weighting methodology intended to provide diversified representation across the selected constituent universe while reducing excessive concentration in individual securities.
The benchmark framework is designed to ensure that changes to constituent selection, methodology, calculation procedures, or other material benchmark parameters are governed through documented processes rather than discretionary day-to-day adjustments.
30 NSX-Listed Securities
The NAX30 constituent universe consists of 30 selected securities listed on the Namibia Securities Exchange (NSX).
The constituent set provides exposure at the benchmark-measurement level to companies operating across multiple sectors represented on the NSX, including financial services, mining and resources, telecommunications, consumer businesses, property, industrial activities, and other listed market segments.
The inclusion of both Namibian companies and qualifying securities of companies with listings on the NSX reflects the structure of Namibia's listed equity market.
Constituent information is published through the NAX30 platform to provide market participants with visibility into the securities represented within the benchmark.
The constituent universe is subject to periodic review in accordance with the NAX30 methodology and governance framework.
Market Data and Historical Benchmark Information
A central objective of NAX30 is to make benchmark information publicly accessible and easy to interpret.
The NAX30 digital platform provides the current benchmark level together with historical benchmark information and an interactive performance chart, allowing users to observe the direction of the index across multiple measurement periods.
The platform maintains historical benchmark observations to support comparative market analysis and longer-term evaluation of NAX30 performance.
Benchmark publications include timestamps and supporting market information intended to establish a transparent record of published index observations.
The NAX30 website has also been redesigned around a market-data-first user experience, placing the current benchmark level and historical performance chart prominently at the top of the platform.
Users can access NAX30 through desktop and mobile environments, with dedicated light and dark interfaces, responsive navigation, benchmark documentation, constituent information, governance materials, methodology information, market publications, and historical data.
Blockchain-Native Benchmark Infrastructure
While NAX30 measures securities traded within Namibia's conventional capital-market infrastructure, the benchmark incorporates blockchain-native technology within its underlying administration and data architecture.
The technology is intended to strengthen transparency, programmability, data verification, governance records, and the long-term development of auditable financial-market infrastructure.
Blockchain technology does not change the nature of the securities referenced by the NAX30 Index and does not represent ownership of the constituent companies.
Instead, it forms part of the technological infrastructure through which NAX30 is being developed and administered as a modern financial benchmark.
The architecture allows NAX30 to combine conventional capital-market data principles with programmable digital infrastructure while maintaining a clear distinction between the benchmark itself and the underlying securities it references.
Supporting Market Research and Financial Analysis
The development of NAX30 is intended to broaden the tools available for analyzing Namibia's capital markets.
A consistently calculated benchmark can provide a common reference point for financial research, market commentary, economic analysis, comparative performance assessment, academic research, institutional market monitoring, and the evaluation of longer-term equity-market trends.
For international market participants, NAX30 is also intended to improve the accessibility and visibility of information relating to Namibia's listed market through a dedicated digital benchmark platform.
The development reflects a broader objective of strengthening Namibia's financial-market data infrastructure as domestic capital markets continue to evolve.
Governance, Transparency and Documentation
NAX30 has been developed around documented benchmark administration rather than an opaque calculation model.
Supporting documentation made available through the NAX30 platform includes materials addressing benchmark methodology, governance, constituent policy, calculation architecture, data policy, technical infrastructure, risk disclosures, and change-control procedures.
The publication of these materials is intended to allow market participants to understand how the benchmark is constructed and administered and how material changes are governed.
NAX30 intends to continue expanding its benchmark documentation and historical market-data infrastructure as the platform develops.
Independent Administration
The Namibia 30 Index is independently administered by Abba Payments (Namibia) (Pty) Ltd., a Namibian company headquartered in Oshakati.
References to the Namibia Securities Exchange (NSX) and NSX-listed securities identify the market and securities referenced by the benchmark and should not be interpreted as implying sponsorship, endorsement, administration, or affiliation by the NSX unless expressly stated.
NAX30 remains independently responsible for its benchmark methodology, calculation framework, governance, publication infrastructure, and associated market information.
